- WHOOPEE!!! Only one year late, this must be the version B of the EQ card
- that HP's been tinkering with. I'm glad to hear that it's finally
- available. Besides fixing a few bugs, and including a GROB decompressor
- that allows more graphics to be squeezed into the card, they also have a
- real, actual, honest-to-goodness Spectrum Holobyte version of Tetris,
- licensed from Bulletproof Software, and it's Really Good! Some features:
-
- - Starts with a huge map of USSR (quaint anachronism!)
- - Ten levels (speeds), you can select
- - 16 fill levels you can select (starts with rows pre-loaded with junk)
- - Next Piece feature toggle
- - End After n Rows, you can set n, or 0 for no end
- - Turbo mode (makes normal 10 levels insanely faster)
- - user-reassignable control keys!
- - you can interrupt the game and continue later (like MINEHUNT)
- - Two-Player mode (AWESOME!) in which two HP 48's play simultaneously,
- communicating via I/R or wire; each time you complete a row, your
- opponent gets penalized, and it's even better if you complete multiple
- rows simultaneously, especially four at once. Lots of fun!
-
- Unfortunately, HP went to great pains to insure that us hacker types
- cannot extract the Tetris code from the card. (Well, at least I tried
- very, very hard, and couldn't do it). So bootleg copies of it won't be
- floating around. You can only get it in one place: version B of the EQ
- card. It's not being announced with a lot of fanfare, so that the
- version A cards will continue to sell to the uninformed.
