- When it wants to be standards conformant? I've changed jobs and
- don't have easy access to the documents anymore, but I recall that
- some combination of SVID and/or POSIX.2 required that certain applications
- use the values in LINES and COLUMNS if they were set. If you unset
- them, then the behavior is unspecified.
