  15. we are trying to define and implement an OSI Transport Service (ISO 8072)
  16. conforming communication interface on VAX machines with DECnet phase IV
  17. networking. This is done in a research project at our University. The idea
  18. behind this approach is to provide higher layer (5-7) OSI protocols and
  19. services to heterogeneous application systems. We are running VMS 5.4 on
  20. VAXstations and a MicroVAX.

  22. But the task is not easy. We would like to specify and implement a
  23. convergence protocol that provides the ISO 8072 service, based upon the NSP
  24. protocol service (cf. RFC 1006 for TCP&OSI). Unfortunately our
  25. documentation is very complete for administration purposes but not for
  26. systems programming. What we need is a detailed specification of the (Phase
  27. IV) NSP service and documentation of its programming interface under VMS.
  28. Please let me know, if You have any references for that or if You know
  29. about someone who could provide the material.

  31. We would also be interrested in a NSP programming interface spec. for
  32. ULTRIX (if existing).
