- Hello World,
-
- we are trying to define and implement an OSI Transport Service (ISO 8072)
- conforming communication interface on VAX machines with DECnet phase IV
- networking. This is done in a research project at our University. The idea
- behind this approach is to provide higher layer (5-7) OSI protocols and
- services to heterogeneous application systems. We are running VMS 5.4 on
- VAXstations and a MicroVAX.
-
- But the task is not easy. We would like to specify and implement a
- convergence protocol that provides the ISO 8072 service, based upon the NSP
- protocol service (cf. RFC 1006 for TCP&OSI). Unfortunately our
- documentation is very complete for administration purposes but not for
- systems programming. What we need is a detailed specification of the (Phase
- IV) NSP service and documentation of its programming interface under VMS.
- Please let me know, if You have any references for that or if You know
- about someone who could provide the material.
-
- We would also be interrested in a NSP programming interface spec. for
- ULTRIX (if existing).
-
- sincerely
- Oliver Hermanns
