- I saw a demonstration by British Telecom of a videophone operating over
- standard 64kb/s phone network bandwidth. The frame rate was variable depending
- on how much of the picture was changing - thus giving about 12+ frames per
- second if only your mouth was moving. It had some wickedly impressive signal
- processing that not just decoded image differences, but would track objects
- and just transmit their outlines and new positions. The penalty was that the
- processing took so long that the lip sync was quite dreadful. This may well have
- improved as it was only a prototype model.

- It's quite remarkable to think that you might be able to use a relatively
- cheap home computer as a videophone.. imagine suggesting that 10 years ago to
- a Sinclair ZX81 owner!
