- Yes, I know it's late. Sorry people, I've been descended on by a mad supervisor
- who wanted to know where I've been for the last 4 days :-)
-
- I'll get it done RSN (honest). There's a problem which manifests itself in the
- minixfs part of the setup program. I minit the drive, make a large directory tree
- and then MiNT invalidates the drive (!) Consequently, nothing more may be copied
- to that drive. Ever. I think I sorted this out last time by insisting on a reset
- halfway through the install procedure, so I'll try that. Icidentally, I'm using
- the ICD software, it could possibly be that it doesn't expect a media-change on
- the hard disk...
-
- A few details, though, for those who hunger... There will be 3 'operations'
- split over 2 programs. There is a Setup program, which you will only have to run
- once, hopefully, which (optionally) minit's a drive and then sets up a dir tree
- a la un*x, puts MiNT in your auto folder (actually it mucks around quite a lot
- in the auto folder, and with accessories etc. - unavoidable I'm afraid), and
- copies toswin stuff onto C:\
-
- Secondly, there is a Install program, which lets you install software in related
- subsets. You *can* install parts of a subset if you want, but in future I'll be
- assuming that if any of a subset is installed, all of it is. This program is
- completely self-contained, and will be used for patches/updates as well as the
- initial install.
-
- Thirdly, the Install program will let you run shell scripts for /bin/sh. This is
- how I intend to do do commands like chmod/chown etc. Any subset disk with a file
- called 'preXXX.sh' must be run before installing subset XXX, and any file
- 'postXXX.sh' must be run after installing subset XXX.
-
- All of this is 'point-and-click', so hopefully there won't be too many problems
- with actually doing it. There's online ""help"" <--- (heavily quoted) which gives
- a brief description of what is in each subset.
-
- I'm currently up to 10 disks including one for the setup/install programs. This
- should be taken with a pinch of salt. Due to the 'subset' nature of this new
- distribution, I can't pack them as well as I used to be able to...
-
-
- Simon.
