- When I posted my survey about Apple and its computers, a number of
- people (MANY) asked that I give them the results. DONE SO HERE BY!
-
-
- Should Apple Computer Inc. have done to the Apple II what Apple
- Computer Inc. did to the Apple II?
-
- Great title? What does it mean? In the 9 Mar 92 issue of InfoWorld,
- on page 127, Chris Espinosa of Apple Computer Inc. was quoted as
- follows: "We're not going to do to the Macintosh what we did to the
- Apple II..." The Article in which the quote occurred was titled
- "Apple says to industry: 'The Mac is not dead.'" In the same issue
- were other stories of dealers and customers complaining of poor
- support for the Mac from Apple Computer Inc..
-
- What is meant by Mr. Espinosa's statement? As an Apple II user, I
- know exactly what is meant. Apple Computer Inc. has a history of
- abandoning their computer systems and thus, the users having bought
- those systems. This is documented in many books and experiences of
- Apple Computer Inc. equipment users. I'll go through a very short
- history of exactly what I mean; there is no need to go through all of
- the products of Apple Computer Inc. from the Apple I to the latest and
- greatest Mac or whatever.
-
-
-
- A short history about the II, III and Lisa goes in here. I talk about
- abandoning the III and Lisa. I also talk about how R&D went into the
- III, Lisa and the Mac and the II being left to fend on its own. I
- talk about how the old IIe ROMs make the old II & II+ software
- unusable. All of you know the story; if you want to refresh your
- memory, read the history by Steve Weyhrich or any of Lancaster's frequent
- tirades. I also point out that to use the latest OS, the stock GS is
- unsuffecient and contrast this with the treatment of Mac owners. I
- also quote many stories in the computer press about Mac owners and
- dealers feeling that Apple does not support the Mac.
-
-
-
-
- The above is what is meant by "doing to the Apple II." I personally
- do not like Apple Computer Inc. because of what they have done to the
- Apple II. I've heard many others including Apple Computer Inc.
- employees voice their dislike of what Apple Computer Inc. has done to
- the Apple II. Please do not misunderstand: I have great respect for
- the Apple II and the dedicated employees who worked on (and those few
- who continue to work on) the Apple II. I just dislike Apple Computer
- Inc.! I dislike Apple Computer Inc. so strongly, that I will never
- buy another new piece of equipment made by Apple Computer Inc.! When
- asked, I can easily become lost in a tirade about same.
