  13. I also got the ZyXEL U1496E for my A3000 to replace my Supra 2400 ext, from
  14. their BBS Screen Contest, which after entered, can have 40% off on one
  15. modem. Don't ask me how, as it was over on Oct. 12 or so.

  17. It worked great, almost bought a Supra, but luckily checked comp.dcom.modems,
  18. since I could get a Supra from my workplace with employee's discount. Still
  19. I think I won't do that. I paid US$281.40 + $15 shipping + import GST tax

  25. What fax software have you worked good with this? I haven't got any fax
  26. program yet. Is GPFax generic good?

  28. Is there anybody working on any voice software? I tried to run ZFax for
  29. MS-DOS on the PC-Task 1.04 emulator with MS-DOS (I tried 3.3 and 5.0),
  30. and it won't record the voice, the modem got the command fine though, a
  31. and it responded right, just the screen showing no cps thru put. ZFax
  32. is the free fax and voice software the modem came with.

  34. Also, what fax software works on my AMaxII? FAXstf?

  36. Sometimes I got a line cutoff, which may be due to too much noise. I used to
  37. have even more, to this site at 2400 w/o error correction, but it's pretty
  38. clean now. (but it's a diff. dial-in #, but I tried the old 2400 # and it's
  39. still better in a short trial).

  41. Conclusion, ZyXEL is great modem, the manual is not as bad as MacUser claimed,
  42. but they still haven't got the CCL (?) file for Mac yet. The manual is mor
  43. more technical oriented though, and has not enough examples.

  45. Note to one poster: the current model (without +) are already 16.8k data,
  46. after they upgraded the ROMs. The newer + models have higher potential but
  47. need ROM upgrades for both data speed increase and better voice digitization.
