  20. You can't copyright a protocol. You can copyright a specific
  21. implementation, but not the protocol itself. So, unless the authors
  22. *patented* the protocol, you can implement it if you like (and if they
  23. did patent it, likely all other bidirectional protocols are illegal to
  24. implement too).
