- I'm reposting this. I do not believe it made it out.
- Forgive me if I'm wrong.
-
- I've made a horrible mistake. I turned my 3B1 off for a while.
-
- Until recently, "jonlab" had been a 3B1 running continuously for
- 4 years. It was taken off-line for a few weeks and when I tried
- to reboot, I have voluminous hard disk errors.
-
- The system boots from a floppy-based UNIX, so the basic hardware
- is OK. The diagnostic disk reports about 300 HD errors. Different
- ones on most runs.
-
- Some HD errors seemed to be repeated on most diagnostic runs. I
- listed these in the bad block table and got further in the boot
- procedure. Now it seems to get to UNIX and I get a "panic" message
- followed by an automatic reboot.
-
- I recall postings from 3B1 gurus about similar situations. I think
- they dealt with connector corrosion and/or low (adjustable) power
- supply voltage. However, those reports are on 3B1 medium and I can
- not access them just when I need them.
-
- Do you have any suggestions on what to try to get my 3B1 back on-line?
-
- Jon
