- HERE's what the company policy here at BULL says:
-
- >1) with regards to getting sources from the net & installing them
- > (yes, no, security aspects, fear of copyright infringments do they
- > realize the benefits they're gaining/loosing ...)
-
- ONLY THE SECURITY OFFICERS (that's me by the way) 'SHOULD' GET UNIX
- SOURCES FROM THE NET AND PORT THEM ON OUR PLATFORMS.
-
- BEFORE INSTALLING THEM ON A PRODUCTION SYSTEM, THE PRODUCTS ARE
- 'SCREENED' AGAINST TROJANS AND THE LIKE. MOREOVER IF THE PRODUCTS
- ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY 100 PERCENT PUBLIC DOMAIN (I.E. THERE
- ARE RESTRICTIONS FOR USE IN A CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT) AN ASSESSMENT
- IS MADE ON WHETHER ACQUIRING A SITE LICENCE IS WORTH THE ADVANTAGES
- THE PRODUCT GIVES US. IF NO LICENCE IS GRANTED WE REMOVE SOURCES
- FROM OUR SERVERS.
-
- WE HAVE A LIST OF P.D. SOFTWARE 'SUGGESTED' AT CORPORATE LEVEL BUT
- NORMALLY SCREENING IS MADE AT THE LOCAL (SITE) LEVEL.
-
- >2) with regards to posting sources to the net.

-
- EVERYTHING CAN BE POSTED AS LONG AS COMPLIES WITH THE FOLLOWING:
-
- (1) IS NOT COMPANY COPYRIGHT
- (2) IS NOT THIRD PARTY COPYRIGHT
- (3) IS NOT CLASSIFIED DATA (COMPANY OR THIRD PARTY)
- (4) THE 'STUFF' IS NOT MISREPRESENTED AS COMPANY 'MADE' or 'ENDORSED'
-
- AND OF COURSE WE EXPECT EVERY EMPLOYEE TO USE 'COMMON SENSE' in POSTING
- ANYTHING TO THE NET.
-
- >Naturally, this is NOT a survey from the company that pays my salary.
- >It's my personal curiosity.
-
- WHY 'NATURALLY' ? ACTUALLT I AM SURPRISED NO COMPANY (AS FAR AS I KNOW)
- HAD TACKLED THE ISSUE SO FAR. I SUSPECT UPPER MANAGEMENT HAS NO
- CLEAR IDEA OF WHAT ALL THIS NETWORKING STUFF IS ALL ABOUT, THEY TOLERATE
- IT AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE FOR IT, BUT THE INCREASE
- IN NET TRAFFIC WILL FORCE SOMEONE SOME DAY TO UNDERSTAND BETTER THE ENTIRE
- ISSUE ....
-
- IMPORTANT: I AM REPRESENTING MYSELF HERE, NOT BULL.
