- My SCSI bus occasionally locks up at random times (and almost always during
- booting with a certain configuration) The configurations I have tried are:
-
- Bernoulli 90Pro with/termination ---- Quantum LPS50 ---- Amiga 3000 ----
- Fujitsu M2624FA with/termination
-
- This resulted in occasional random lockups (I'd be doing something with disk
- and SCSI activity light on A3000 would go solid on, and any further disk
- accesses would hang)
- (note Fujitsu was connected internally to A3000 via 50pin ribbon, all other
- drives are in their own case with 50pin ribbon leading to 50pin centronics and
- shielded round cables used between boxes).
-
- Quantum LPS w/termination ---- B90Pro ---- A3000 ---- Fuji M2624 w/termination
-
- This configuration resulted in lockups during almost every attempt to boot
- the system. I tried this configuration in an attempt to get rid of the
- random lockups since the SCSI(2) standard suggests that termination power
- should ideally come from the ends, and the Bernoulli does not provide
- termination power (does the quantum? fuji? amiga?) I was surprised to see
- the almost always lockup with this arrangement.
-
- Quantum LPS50 w/termination ---- A3000 ---- Fuji w/termination
-
- No lockups so far.
-
- This has been an annoying problem for a long time; before I had the fuji I had:
-
- B44 w/termination ---- B44 ---- B90 ---- B90 ---- A3000 ---- Quantum LPS50 w/tm
- (the B44's were in one case with ribbon to both leading to 50pin centronics)
- occasional lockups and:
-
- B90 w/term ---- B90 w/term ---- A3000 ---- Quantum w/term
- occasion lockups.
-
- What is going on? impedance mismatch? bernoullies screwey?
- I've noticed that the bernoulli cases have lots of ribbon bunched up inside the
- case, also, do they do sync transfers ok?
-
- Are there any SCSI chips (which may reside in any of these devices) that have
- known problems?
