- while not responding to your direct question, i would suggest you
- consider performing a test unit ready by target/lun rather than inquiry.
- keep a track of responding units and only issue them an inquiry.

- inquiry entails a data xfer phase, the test unit ready doesnt.
- as such it is better suited for boot time device presence inquiry.
