- I'm experiencing one problem after another trying to get CorelSCSI to
- work correctly, and would appreciate some advice if you have encountered
- similar problems and have solutions. Here are the problems:
-
- 1) The only SCSI device on my system is an Archive DAT. The
- DOS-based Corel install utility doesn't find either CD-ROM or
- WORM/Optical, so it tells me there is nothing on my system. Should I
- still try to use the ASPILS_D.SYS driver for purposes of enabling the
- various Corel applications, or will I be fine allowing the tape backup
- programs to just drive ASPI directly?
-
- 2) The Windows install program, just like the CorelDRAW! 2.01
- install program, sucks. It complains that it doesn't have enough
- memory, and this is on a 16 meg machine, with plenty of memory, plenty
- of GDI, User, and Kernel segment space. Give me a break Corel. Why
- can't you guys get the install programs right?
-
- My question is does anyone know what modifications need to be made to
- win.ini or system.ini to enable the Corel applications under Windows?
-
- 3) None of the DOS utilities, such as CTBACKUP, work under Windows,
- and none of them work after I exit from Windows. This may be an
- incompatibility with either Windows or my networking software
- (ODI/NDIS/TCP/IPX/SPX) or networking card (SMC Elite 16) as well. Has
- anyone else had this problem?
-
- 4) CTBACKUP, the DOS backup utility, fails on a memory allocation error
- while trying to restore *one* file. The failure occurs when trying to
- read through the thousands of subdirectories on my C: drive. This is on
- a DOS machine with 606K available. This reminds me of Fastback 2.01,
- which had the same sort of disastrous aborts on memory allocations
- whenever it tried to gather together all the directory names. Give me a
- break, Corel!
-
- Is there any way to work around this?
-
- I have heard good things about Corel's utilities, so I guess when they
- work they work well. But so far I am not impressed.
