- Sabry,
-
- I will try to explain your problem as simply as is possible.
- To optimize performance, VMS attempts to write pages to the page
- file in contiguous pieces. The first message is generated when
- the space in the page file been broken up into a significant
- number of smaller pieces. The second message is generated when
- the situation gets worse. The immediate effect of this, as you
- have noted, is a severe reduction in system performance.
-
- Without going into a long explanation, the solution to this
- problem is to increase the size of the PAGEFILE or,
- alternatively, create a secondary pagefile on a different disk
- (this is done using the SYSGEN utility) and connecting it (which
- you will need to do once manually, and in the future in the
- command file SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_V5.COM.
-
- I hope that the above information is helpful. If I have been
- unclear, or if you have further questions, please feel free to
- contact me via e-mail.
