  13. I have a few questions regarding the new Alpha systems running OpenVMS.
  14. In my research group we decided to purchase one Alpha now and soon more.
  15. However, we do have thousands and thousands lines of code on our VAX/VMS
  16. cluster that we shall need to port. 99.9% of the code is in VAX FORTRAN
  17. and the remaining are in C and MACRO. The questions are"
  18. (*) will shareable images be available in OpenVMS right away the same way
  19.    as in VAX/VMS
  20. (*) will OpenVMS fortran be 100% compatible (as language not binaries of
  21.     course) with VAX fortran?
  22. (*) are all the wonderful SYS$,LIB$,SMG$ etc routines of system and RTL be
  23.     in openVMS totally compatible with the VAX/VMS?
  24. (*) in conclusion: can someone give me some information regarding what will
  25.     be different in OpenVMS wrt VAX/VMS (other than binaries and possibly
  26.     fundamental types eg. longwords etc)?
  27. (*) can someone point me to a source (ftp,journal,book) where i can learn
  28.     more about alpha and OpenVMS?
