- We are putting in a Novell LAN and I'm 'feeling' for any problems we may meet
- and/or any software packages we may need to enable us to connect to the
- existing VAX and IBM mainframe network.
-
- The Novell LAN will be on a Token-ring network
-
- The VAXs are running digital PATHWORKS
-
- The PCs will be running OS2 and have Token-ring network boards.
-
- The Ethernet will be connected to the Token-ring via a Digital router
-
- We are not keen on running TCP/IP as a solution to connectivity
-
- It was an OS2 LAN, but now they need Novell for database development
- and I'm not allowed to convert the whole thing into a PATHWORKS LAN
- (Sorry digital gals and guys but I tried).
-
- My questions are;
-
- - What support does Novell have for connecting onto a VAX? i.e. disk access,
- terminal emulation and mail etc; Most books mention it but do not give
- details.
-
- - Can PATHWORKS software support DECnet and Novell on a token-ring board on
- an OS2 PC? (I've lost track of what PATHWORKS can do these days)
-
- - What support does Novell have for connecting to an IBM mainframe?
- (again the books mention it but do not give details)
-
- - Are there any other supported products that work like magic and enable
- access to the three platforms (Novell, VMS, MVS)?
-
- - Are we staring down the barrel of a loaded gun with the current PC/Network
- configuration?
-
- I've got a few Novell books to read, but I thought I'd ask a few questions
- so I can get a bit of direction before I get to deep in it all.
-
- Thankyou in advance for any replys.
