  12. Some time ago, there was some discussion re: pre-extending INDEXF.SYS,
  13. and the consensus was, that one has to be very careful,
  14. so that INDEXF.SYS won't become a multi-header file by any chance.

  16. It occurred to me that there is a VMS utility for extending files,
  17. which *has* that important check built-in:
  18.  
  19.   $ MCR SYSGEN CREATE disk:[000000]INDEXF.SYS/size=<newsize>
  20.  
  21. Successfully tested (on a PDA0: device)!
  22.  
  23. NB. This still doesn't help with badly fragmented disks,
  24. but right after an image BACKUP, there shouldn't be a problem.
