- Hi,
-
- I'm not a subscriber to this news group, so forgive my not finding the FAQ.
- Please mail all replies to my e-mail address below.
-
- I have a 486-33 with AMI BIOS and an AHEAD SVGA with 1 Meg. I started
- having problems after loading a Z-NIX version of Windows 3.1. Problem is
- most easily duplicated by playing five or six rounds of solitare. Abruptly the
- cards turn black, but the background remains green. If I hit ctrl-alt-delete,
- the card changes resolution to print the reboot message, but the message
- appears to have ASCII escapes embedded, and is unreadable. If I return to
- Windows, the problem seems to go away (for a while anyway).
-
- This problem is evident when I use Microsoft's memory managers or 386MAX.
-
- This problem also appears when I create obtain a DOS prompt, make it a
- DOS Window, and then return to full screen DOS. When I exit this DOS session,
- all of my windows icons are black. I can temporarily clear this by
- ctrl-alt-deleting as above.
-
- I have tried excluded memory in windows.ini, but suspect I've got the
- wrong memory address ranges.
-
- I downloaded a "new" Ahead driver from ftp.cica.indiania.edu, but it
- doesn't help. I have tried Microsoft's VGA (800x600) driver, but have the
- same problems.
-
- Any help trouble shooting this would be appreciated. Thank You.
