  17. Someone wanted to know why I want to use a keyboard-based editor such as
  18. 'vi' within a windowing environment.  The following reasons immediately
  19. come to mind:

  21.    o Vi is a very powerful editor that grows on you as your experience with
  22.      it increases (much like C/C++).  After having used it for seven years,
  23.      I have little to complain about (except that it doesn't support split
  24.      screens like emacs, which allegedly had been developed but lost in
  25.      a disk crash).

  27.    o The uniformity with which it handles UNIX-style regular expressions
  28.      is impressive - experienced users will vouch for their flexibility in
  29.      executing complicated editing operations.

  31.    o Vi works perfectly well under X-Windows (including Cut/Paste across
  32.      vi windows), so I don't see what makes it difficult to use under
  33.      MS-Windows.  I think it is counter-productive to keep switching
  34.      basic tools such as editors when you work on different platforms
  35.      (as if all the other differences are not bothersome enough!).

  37. From the numerous messages I've received so far, a lot of poeple are
  38. eager to get their hands on (and even pay) for a good vi editor under
  39. MS-Windows.  So I'm still on the look out...
