  11. I just received an offer from the company to purchase the Mathcad
  12. program for about $80 and would appreciate your assistance in
  13. deciding whether I should buy it at that price.

  15. My needs are for an equation editor that is more powerful and
  16. flexible than AmiPro's and for a statistical analysis tool that
  17. would give me the flexibility to write linear models and analyze
  18. data accordingly.  My first question is, how well would Mathcad
  19. meet my needs relative to other programs on themarket--especially
  20. in comparison with other stat packages such as SPSS?
  21.  
  22. Second, Mathcad seems to resemble an electronic chalkboard. 
  23. Besides its working with mathematical equations and models, what
  24. (if any) are its other capabilities?  For instance, does it have
  25. an drawing, charting, or graphing capabilities?  How effectively
  26. does it perform word processing and layout functions?
  27.  
  28. Third, what else should I know about the program's overall and
  29. specific strengths and weaknesses?  I am wondering about the
  30. following items, among others: how fast is the program compared
  31. with other significant applications?  How well does it work with
  32. other programs?  How effectively does it function as an OLE
  33. server?  What's its memory and system resource demands?
