- If you ordered Windows for Work Groups from Microsoft and haven't
- received it yet, Microsoft Sales just confirmed that the product is
- currently on hold and pending orders are NOT being shipped.
-
- The reason: When the product was originally released about November
- 2, the first FedEx shipments were made. Within hours, however, an
- incompatibility between WfWG and Access (the new Database) was
- discovered. Microsoft actually called up FedExpress and had them
- return all undelivered product. Sadly, my order was just minutes
- from being delivered when the recall came out.
-
- With no public announcement from MS about the delay, I had no idea why
- it was taking so long for my order to arrive. I called Microsoft
- sales several times and was assured that the orders were in the
- pipeline and would arrive "soon". Only after one of the account
- reps accidentally gave me the FedEx tracking number, did I call
- FedEx and find that my original order had shipped, then recalled.
-
- Repeated calls to MS denied that anything was wrong, until last
- night (Nov 16), when I refused to hang up until I found out when
- my order would arrive. Under some pressure, the Supervisor told
- me the following:
-
- * A problem with WfWG compatibility with Access was the cause for
- the recall, and only a "few" of the packages had been delivered
- before the recall.
-
- * It was not clear if product in the retail chain were recalled,
- or if deliveries were halted, since she only knew about
- mail-order sales.
-
- * As of November 16, there still was no guaranteed release date
- for the fixed product, but lots of Real Soon Now and Maybe Next
- Week responses.
-
- Assuming the sales rep told the truth, don't hold your breath waiting
- for Windows for Work Groups. 8^)
