- I have tried and tried not to post here about this problem but I cannot
- seem to find an answer anywhere else. I am currently running a several
- linux partitions on a AMI bios'ed 486/33. As follows:
-
- 2 Seagate IDE 211meg H.D.
- - Drive 0 hda1 - 100 megs DOS
- hda2 - linux approx 65 meg
- hda3 - linux approx 30 meg etc....
-
- - Drive 1 hdb5 - 200 megs DOS
-
- (not sure what thhis has to do with anything but, just in case I get
- a "you should have told us.......")
-
- 1 ATI VGA ULTRA Card 1meg
- 1 Zenith Data Systems SVGA monitor 1024x768 non-interlaced
- 8 Megs Memory
- (other stuff like CDROM and tape drive but that is un-important)
-
- Anyway, my Linux system SLS .95p5 is working great. However, I have had
- no end of problems with Xwindows. The x1-x8 disks loaded fine and after
- reading the docs on how to install the color server, I decided I had better
- just try the mono configuration before I waste all the time in Xconfig.
- So, I did the stated cd /usr/X386/bin ....... mv Xconfig.mono Xconfig etc.
- as stated in the SLS installation instructions. (I even ln -s X386 to X).
- However, I keep getting a "none of the configured devices found" error
- after startx. Am I missing something? Should it not try the "generic" driver
- if it does not find any of the other ET3000, ET4000, etc drivers? I would
- really love to see the mono version work before I even attempt to get
- the color on line. Is anything blaringly obvious?
