  13. Late last night I tried to install linux from the SLS distribution.
  14. It runs just fine off the floppies, but it would be nice to have it on
  15. the hard disk, right?  Right.

  17. OK, first step is reduce the DOS disk partition, using disk editor
  18. from norton, and changing the partition table entries and the size in
  19. the DOS bootblock.  (Yes I know you're not supposed to do that, but it
  20. worked out, OK?)

  22. OK, start linux from floppy, run fdisk.  'Unable to read /dev/hda'
  23. Just to make sure, I tried /dev/hdb, and after I read a few of the
  24. docs, /dev/sda as well.  Same result.

  26. I also tried creating a partition for linux with dos, but it would
  27. still protest.

  29. What am I doing wrong?

  33. Machine is HP 486SX w/ enough RAM and a 406Mb SCSI disk.
  34. Not entirely sure which version of the bootimage, at least 0.97.
