- Late last night I tried to install linux from the SLS distribution.
- It runs just fine off the floppies, but it would be nice to have it on
- the hard disk, right? Right.
-
- OK, first step is reduce the DOS disk partition, using disk editor
- from norton, and changing the partition table entries and the size in
- the DOS bootblock. (Yes I know you're not supposed to do that, but it
- worked out, OK?)
-
- OK, start linux from floppy, run fdisk. 'Unable to read /dev/hda'
- Just to make sure, I tried /dev/hdb, and after I read a few of the
- docs, /dev/sda as well. Same result.
-
- I also tried creating a partition for linux with dos, but it would
- still protest.
-
- What am I doing wrong?
-
- Please respond by email, I don't have time to read this group!
-
- Machine is HP 486SX w/ enough RAM and a 406Mb SCSI disk.
- Not entirely sure which version of the bootimage, at least 0.97.
