  12. I've read the posts regarding BBS software for Coherent with great
  13. interest since I would like to set up one also.  It struck me,
  14. however, that most posts seemed to suggest a DOS BBS model ported to
  15. unix platform, which to me would be a step back.  After thinking about
  16. it for a sec I realized that unix offers a superior model for BBS just
  17. in itself, simply by implementing tools that are already there.  With
  18. some functions written for ksh all of the average good BBS functions
  19. could be duplicated having an advantage of being invokable from
  20. anywhere (command line) without having to cruise through maddening
  21. menus.  With one man page written to explain the commands and
  22. permissions properly set Coherent can be an ultimate BBS without any
  23. custom software running on top of it.

  25. I will be putting a new machine together for it soon (a couple of
  26. previous cheap clones I had developed funny problems and I finally
  27. decided to do the job right by picking each component personally).
  28. When it's done I will post the phone number in this group and request
  29. comments from those who care to log in and play with it (I want to
  30. start with 5-6 lines).

  32. If anyone has any ideas on how to make it even better before it is put
  33. together (small and simple is beautiful) using simple ksh scripts/functions
  34. and/or simple and short C programs running from the command line (I
  35. insist on that interface as the fastest and best human interface ever
  36. developed), please email me or post.
