- I went back and forth between San Jose and San Francisco a couple of
- times by CalTrain at last year's SUG, and from SJ to Berkeley via
- a county bus and BART. The only really bad part was hiking down
- to the CalTrain station to catch the last train to San Jose the
- night before my 7:00 AM plane; crossing under the freeway is
- annoying, and the neighbourhood, while not overtly dangerous,
- is pretty empty in the evening.
-
- The CalTrain stop in San Jose is a reasonable walk from the
- convention centre; there are also buses which go there, if you
- can find one.
-
- Getting to BART by bus from San Jose requires patience and exact
- change. Getting on BART requires currency notes wrinkled to just
- the right point to match the particular not reader you're using,
- but it's nice not to have a car most places in San Francisco.
- If you _do_ have a car but don't want to take it into the city, you
- could investigate parking near BART stations in, e.g., Hayward.
