  16. I live near San Francisco Intl. Airport (SFO); here are some ideas...

  18.   *    Monterey Bay Aquarium/coastal parks
  19.  
  20.     The 'Moon Jellies' alone are worthe the trip.  The coastal
  21.     rocks have zillions of interesting critters living on them.
  22.     (An upweling allows some 90% of the species found on the
  23.     Pacific coast to be represented there.)

  25.   *    Big Basin/Hwy. 35/Tunitas Creek Rd.
  26.  
  27.     If you like trees, here's where you can find them.

  29.   *    SF/Cable Cars/Car Barn/Exploratorium/Golden Gate Park

  31.     The Cable Car Barn is a cross between a museum and the guts
  32.     of the cable car system.  worth visiting for hackers.

  34.     The Exploratorium is a funky, wonderful collection of science
  35.     toys that you're *encouraged* to play with.  It also has a
  36.     really nifty store full of science goodies.
  37.  
  38.     The park has scads of museums, trees, etc.  Also nice places
  39.     to kick back and relax.

  41.   *    Foothill College Electronics Museum/Surplus stores
  42.  
  43.     The museum has lots of nifty old electronics cruft.  The local
  44.     surplus stores do, too, though not so old, and for sale.  There
  45.     are around two dozen (!) electronic surplus stores in the area.

  47.   *    Golden Gate National Recreation Area, etc.
  48.  
  49.     Numerous large parks, hiking trails, etc.
