- Steve Knight answers "is there a PD Mac Pop" with:
-
- >I'm afraid not ... the nearest offer is AlphaPOP marketed by Cognitive
- >Applications for 300 pounds ($500?). This system is fine for learning
- >Pop but not good enough for writing applications, unfortunately.
-
- Steve should have made it clear that when he says "applications" he
- means full-blooded worrying-about-performance-and-robustness
- used-by-lots-of-people applications.
-
- We have a couple of copies of AlphaPop here, and they are reasonably
- used. A colleague of mine built a spatial reasoning system in
- AlphaPop.
-
- I only have a joke-Mac (Atari ST with Spectre GCR), but AlphaPop is my
- first choice for writing bits of programs at home (I'd use Poplog on
- the Suns in the office). It's great as a calculator too, but I suppose
- 300 quid is a bit steep for a calculator nowadays.
-
- Summary: no I wouldn't build a product in AlphaPop but it is nice to
- have if you only have a Mac around and you aren't paying for your own
- copy.
-
- Cheers,
-
