  11. Thanks, everybody, for pointing out the logical
  12. pathname and host facilities as being the kind of thing
  13. I needed to get portability across machines and systems.  It works!

  15. As somebody else pointed out, this part of Steele is extremely
  16. obscure -- the very brief treatment in the MCL reference manual
  17. was actually very useful in giving another cut on the problem.
  18. So what is needed in an FAQ is mention of this facility along
  19. with a juicy example.
