  13. Sigh.  I was really hoping there would be a FAQ file for this group.  I'm
  14. sure my questions would have been covered...

  16. I've been looking for a modem which will do at least 9600 baud data com-
  17. munication, possibly with 14,400 baud/compression, possibly with additional
  18. FAX capability, for not much more than $300, and preferably less.  I've
  19. looked through Computer Shopper, and found a variety of modems which *might*
  20. do what I want, but I'm not sure.  I saw one modem that said 14,400 FAX, and
  21. nothing else.  DOes that mean it just does FAX at 14.4 kbps, or does it mean
  22. it does 14.4 kbps plus FAX?  What exactly are V.32 and V.42?  What does the
  23. "bis" sometimes after V.x2 mean?  What are Group 1/2/3 FAX, and which do I
  24. probably want?

  26. Any recommendations for the best modem in my price range?
