- Deciding how long a project will take is often difficult, and can really
- only be based on experience, but some good rules of thumb are appropriate
- (bear in mind I am talking here about quoting a fixed price up front for
- a job, so you've got to cover your derrier):
-
- Firstly, work out the WORST CASE time you think it will take. Then
- double that and you should have something approaching how long it will
- actually take, Then cost your time at a value you are sure is much more
- than you are really worth (this helps allow for the hidden time you
- will inevitably spend). If you don't cringe when you write down this
- figure, it's too low. By the same token, don't be greedy. If you are in
- your first year out of uni you can't expect to charge $150/hr.
-
- My estimate for a GENERIC foxbase to C converter? $150K.
