  16. I have been using the new UUSTAT program that was posted here a couple
  17. of months ago to generate USENET statistics which are automatically
  18. posted to a [semi-]local newsgroup.

  20. This program is the greatest thing since sliced cheese (moreso than
  21. bread)!  When combined with statistics from 'SYSMAN', the end result
  22. is a very complete, comprehensive set of stats.

  24. However, there seems to be a slight bug:  I had been using the program
  25. without a problem for several weeks, then this morning when I ran it
  26. (I manually run it daily on a fresh UUCICO file to see what has gone
  27. on during the night) it came up with 'Divide Error'.

  29. I tried it several more times, still coming up with 'Divide Error'.  I
  30. tried it on my "accumulated" UUCICO (as each night's UUCICO file is
  31. deleted, it is first appended to the end of a much larger one which
  32. is then used to produce semi-monthly stats) and it worked perfectly.

  34. So I used an editor and took a look at the UUCICO file.  It was not
  35. difficult to spot the problem.  One of my neighbours (gtm-inc) had
  36. polled me, but somehow some line noise or something struck when it
  37. was identifying itself, and the UUCICO log file had something like:
  38. "Talking to gt~-?@&.  gt~-?@& is unknown to me."
  39.  
  40. So it appears that if a site is not in the systems file, that UUSTAT
  41. will not operate properly.  Or perhaps if a site has "garbage"
  42. characters then UUSTAT craps out.

  44. This bug is minor, and this problem will probably occur once in a blue 
  45. moon.  However, since I generate semi-monthly stats based on "accumulated" 
  46. UUCICO files (and am planning to generate a yearly summary starting in 
  47. 1993), even one such occurrence would prevent UUSTAT from collating the 
  48. statistics.
