  10. In 1985 that old Tory war horse Dalton Camp bet Mel Hurtig a bottle
  11. of Scotch that Mel's recently launched group, the Council of Canadians,
  12. wouldn't last ten weeks. Seven years later, Mel is still waiting for Camp to 
  13. pay up!

  15. The Council of Canadians has been fighting to preserve Canadian sovereignty
  16. ever since. In general terms, this can be conceptualised as a fight against 
  17. the BFTA and, currently, NAFTA. It was the (then) proposed BFTA that 
  18. Hurtig organised against. Mel is currently the honourary Chairperson; 
  19. Maude Barlow is the Chair.

  21. We are an apolitical and non-profit (but not tax creditable) organisation.
  22. We are dedicated to the defeat of the Mulroney government, not because they are 
  23. Conservatives, but because Mr. Mulroney sold Canada out to the USA.
