- Here is the text of the Caltech weekly report. It accompanies a postscript
- map that I can't or won't re-post because it's a very big file. You can
- ftp the text and map from seismo.gps.caltech.edu under successive
- directories pub and ca.earthquakes.
- I've edited the text lightly, but the information is unaffected.

- This document is a commentary on current seismic activity. The
- earthquakes discussed have been detected and processed
- automatically. All epicenters and magnitudes have been reviewed
- to exclude obvious blunders; however, they must still be
- considered preliminary. For further information, please contact
- the authors or the Caltech Public Relations Office at (818) 356-6326.

- --------------------------------
- Aftershocks of the Landers earthquake continued in the seven days to
- midnight Wednesday night, November 18, PST, as they will for several
- years at least. The map includes a virtually complete set of earthquakes
- of M2.5 or larger, plus many smaller ones that made it through the data
- processing: 440 in all.
- There was not much exciting this week. The largest quake was a M3.5 near
- the intersection of the Banning and San Jacinto Faults at Redlands, early
- Wednesday morning. It was fairly widely felt, and there was some confusion
-
- about whether "Caltech said" it was a Big Bear aftershock or not. This is
- debatable, although we finally said that it was not, because the Redlands
- area is one of fairly high activity in its own right.
- Only slightly smaller (M3.4 and M3.3) were two quakes 15 minutes apart on
-
- Friday night, both 7 mi. NE of Barstow. These were Landers aftershocks.
- Table 1 lists only earthquakes of M2.3 or larger. Times are local; for
- GMT, add 8 hrs. to the PST listed.
