- I live in Alamo Calif. There is an interesting fault structure in our area
- that is called a conjugate fault. It runs east west, linking the southern end of
- the Concord fault and the northern end of the Calaveras fault (as I understand
- it). We lived through approx. 600 earthquakes and aftershocks over about a
- 3 month period about a year or so ago. These EQ's would wake us up several
- times a night. They were very nerve racking to say the least. Several homes in
- our area did receive substantial damage in the early initial shocks. These
- EQs were weird in that they were shallow and you could always hear them before
- you felt them. There would be a low frequency boom then a few seconds later you
- felt the shock wave. The initial shocks were very violent due to the shallow
- depth I guess. Does anyone know more about this fault? I understand there was
- new instrumentation placed in the area to gather more info on this fault zone.
- I read somewhere that the EQ cycle is on the order of every 8-12 years.
