- <Subject: Addendum to previous message about SAS 6.08 Windows and TCP/IP
- < software
- <
- <Sorry, in my previous message about the fix for the conflict between SAS
- <6.08 for Windows and TCP/IP software that uses a DOS environment variable
- <named USER, I neglected to include a necessary semi-colon in the
- <CONFIG.SAS statement that "fixes" the problem. The correct statement is
- <
- < -initstmt 'libname USER clear ;'
- <
- <Note that on page 86 of the preliminary documentation the order of the
- <semi-colon and the last single quote are reversed. (Are you listening SAS
- <Institute?) This appears to be a misprint.
-
- Hi Fellow SAS-L'ers....
- I am a rookie SAS-L user ... and have only just joined the group, and also
- have only just had WINDOWS Version 6.08 installed on my PC (Developer's
- Copy) ... I have noticed with interest the discussions on pricing .. as we
- are in the position of on-selling PC-SAS Licences to our Government (Public
- Service) Departments, after we buy a bulk licence from SAS Inst. .. and the
- price increases are causing us some concern.
- However .. re the above problem .. I too spent several days (and I regard
- myself as a reasonably experienced SAS user !!) .. negotiating the manual,
- and determining WHY SAS was using USER and not WORK (the AUTOEXEC.SAS "red
- herring" throwing me off the scent for a while !).
-
- We use TCP/IP as well (through NOVELL LAN) ... and the USER environment
- variable was being created ... and my attempts to use the -INITSTMT as per
- the manual, finally worked once I discovered the ubiquitous missing ';' ..
- as you say .. a VERY annoying misprint .. but thankfully one OUR Govt.
- users will be informed about before they instal SAS 6.08 , .. NOW !!
-
- I just wonder how many other SAS sites will go through the same process ..
- and what other hidden "joys" await ...
-
- Incidentally .. another acknowledged "bug" in SAS/INSIGHT (experimental,
- admittedly) involves having to shrink the rotation area before axes will be
- displayed, when doing rotating plots on screen ....
