- I haven't read anything that looks like gossip on this list, yet. But,
- in general, I'd have to agree with Don. EE-gadds, you know, gossip on
- this list would probably look like something out of the National
- Inquirer. I mean, we would be stating names and actual instances in
- clear detail (enough for the reader to read). I hope we never see it.
-
- I don't understand who Don is disagreeing with, though. No one has
- said that there *is* gossip on this list or that a discussion re:
- gossip or couples in academia is inappropriate.

-
- I don't think it is either. We haven't stated any specific names or anything
- like that.

- I'm glad to see it also. Some day, Monika and I will be applying for
- teaching positions at the same university. I have heard that the trend
- in the past was to discriminate against married couples in hiring
- procedures. That is, to have a married couple at the university is
- bad, and therefore we should not hire married couples or spouses of
- instructors. Now, Monika tells me that there is another trend
- beginning in the opposite direction. Universities are starting to
- see that couples are likely to be formed in the academic environment,
- the selection would be limited in the employment practice when
- selecting out these applicants, therefore, it is good to promote
- the hiring of married couples.
-
- Any thoughts?
