- Tim,
- I know of a lady who spent years trying to deal with a child diagnosed ADHD,
- only to learn that he HAD in fact been misdiagnosed and was actually a
- bipolar manic. Wow! What a difference. Additionally I do believe that if
- ADHD is not managed well that the kids will grow into all sorts of later
- personality problems. Our research has shown a sample of juvenile first time
- offenders taken from the Juvenile Diversion division here in El Paso County
- scored significantly higher than normals of the same age, etc. on a
- personality inventory developed in accordance with Axis II of DSM-III-R,
- to measure the different personality disorders and a neuropsych index (for
- ADHD). They were higher on antisocial, borderline, passive aggressive, self-
- defeating, dependent and histrionic scales, as well on the neuropsych index.
- Other research that indicates that kids with hyperactivity and attention
- deficits have concomitant antisocial behaviors is Johnson, 1989; Quitkin
- and Klein, 1969; Borland and Heckman, 1976; Yeudall, Fromm-Auch, & Davies,
- 1982.
