- Yes, I agree with Eric. The issue, however, is whether we need to consider
- the functional aspects of these circuits when we talk about the
- specific structures that are included in the "limbic system". I think
- we should. That is, to me at least, is most important when we talk
- about the organism's response to stress or other environmental factors.
- Recently, I have been doing some readings in the area of endocrine
- functions, stress, disease, and aging. I found that there a lot of
- things going on in the hippocampus that are related to stress response
- and the hormonal activity. Somebody mentioned Spolasky's work (I think
- that was Eric!]. This work clearly implicates hippocampus in many
- of the stress related diseases. So, where do you draw the lines functionally?!
- I don't think you can with any degree of certainty.
