- At the Falk Medical Library we have terminals (3164's) in areas that
- are not directly watched. We even have a terminal for inventory use
- (logged into staff mode discharge w/other <Fx> keys disabled) and
- have had no problem except with the occasional errant 'setup' screen
- appearing, which is handled by the little 'rings of disablement' that
- can be fashioned from little bits of plastic pipe.
-
- As for theft...no problem again. The clientele of the library are
- by and large intelligent folk, and who among them would WANT a 3164
- for a house pet? I might not feel the same if they were to be
- replaced with PC's...but even the end-user PC's have not disappeared
- from the public areas. In fact, the most blatant attempt at theft
- occurred in a private, closed, closely monitored area. He said he
- was a 'computer repair person'.
-
- I wouldn't worry about putting terminals in areas which are not
- directly in view of the staff.
