  11. We are in the process of developing detailed conceptual plans for
  12. conducting a collection inventory. Our assumption is that the most
  13. efficient way to do this will be to insure that all titles in our
  14. collection have machine-readable records, that all copies of those
  15. titles are represented with system records, and that all items have
  16. been barcoded. Items on the shelf would be scanned with some type of
  17. hand-held device, the "on shelf" info added to a database of items
  18. that are checked out, and this combined database matched against the
  19. entire database. Those items not accounted for would be reported to
  20. us for further reconciliation action.

  22. I would like to hear from any NOTIS libraries that have done an inventory
  23. (or are thinking of doing inventory) through some type of automated
  24. process. Is (was) your process similar to that envisioned above?
  25. Have you written programming for this function?
