- A reader of the list has put me onto a VGA utility that installs
- a very readable sans serif screen font -- though the lower case
- "m" is not entirely to my liking. An outfit by the name of
- "clySmic software" distributes it as freeware, and it can be
- found on SIMTEL20 in the directory VGA under the name
- VFONT436.ARC.
-
- What I would like to do is to yank the NB4 ASCII character set
- out of NB.FNT and replace it with a "clySmic software" font. I
- have no qualms about doing that for my personal use since the
- copyright holders say nothing about appropriating their fonts for
- uses other than those intended by them. The copyright notice by
- clySmic software is:
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------------
- VFONT is copyrighted by clySmic software, and is released as
- "Freeware". You may copy the program and distribute it without
- charge. You may not sell or otherwise charge for VFONT.
- However, users' groups may charge a small fee (not to exceed $7)
- for media and postage. This program is provided AS IS without any
- warranty, expressed or implied, including but not limited to
- fitness for a particular purpose. So there.
-
- clySmic software is not responsible for anything that may happen
- when you use VFONT, including hardware damage, information loss,
- or crossed-eyes from looking at Scrawl.

-
- Is there a copyright notice by NBI explicitly forbidding the
- modification of any component of NB4/NBLinga that I have missed
- in the documentation that I received?
-
- I assume that NBI would definitely object to the general
- distribution (as for example in the SIMTEL20 directory Notabene)
- of a modified version of their NB.FNT file. The problem, as I see
- it, is that they would understandably not want non-owners of
- NB4/NBLingua to have access to the 13 other fonts in NB.FNT, a
- file which can be readily dissected into its component font files
- with a binary editor. For the moment, I see no way that I could
- make a modified NB.FNT readily available to others without
- running afoul of NBI.
-
- Any ideas?
