- 1) If I go to the MLA I'd love to meet N.B. people. But I won't know
- until December probably.
-
- 2) In answer to an earlier query, I too have not been able to extract
- bibliographic references with 4.0 and Ibid. But I've only tried it a
- couple of times with one file (the same file worked fine under 3.1)
- I get only 2 references (when I know there are 10 or more), and then N.B.
- 4.0 hangs while trying to generate the "2" references. I'll try more
- experimenting.
-
- 3) I've been waiting for a few days for NBI to call, so I thought I'd
- post this as an open question. Has anyone gotten the dictionary into
- EMS _and_ used Ibid successfully? I've used the dictionary fine, but
- when i've tried to call up Ibid I get some sort of basic file directory
- menu instead. I tried loading the dictionary with different amounts in
- conventional memory, but with the same result.
-
- 4) Speaking of memory, I'm finding it frustrating how much memory simply
- vanishes in 4.0. I'm running dr-dos 6.0 with about 623K of conventional
- memory available. Oh yeah, I use taskmax as well. With 4.0 loaded I
- get about 239K free inside N.B. The spell dictionary is 100K, and my
- personal spell is about 20K, leaving a good 100K available. I also
- use a 512K ramdrive for overflow files. Yet after a session, with many
- files swapped back and forth, I lose 40 to 50K in memory. I've had
- 4 or 5 files up, taking about 20k of memory, and both F7 and "func me"
- report 39K available. Are others experiencing this? Furthermore,
- when there isn't much memory available (even though a large ramdrive
- exists), 4.0 has trouble working with multiple split windows. I couldn't
- access the Ibid lookup menu until going to a full window.
-
- 5) Is there a glitch with the define, or is it just me? When I define
- a sentence of text which is, say, bold, and then copy it somewhere else
- in the text, the stuff after it gets bolded as well.
-
- Any help with these problems is appreciated. I will talk to NBI about
- them if/when they phone me back. There is a lot about 4.0 I really
- like, and the file handling is _much_ improved. The problems with Ibid
- and memory are troubling though, but I assume solutions will be found.
