-
- I've been allowed to play with NB4 over the last few days, and must in
- due course give it back. I have found the following - minor, compared
- to what some others have encountered - but I'd still like to hear if
- there is an answer.
-
- Using an Epson dot matrix printer, I cannot get the running footer at
- the end of the page where it should be. I solved the problem of the
- text creeping down the first page by inserting TP=0 in nbcustom.set;
- but no setting of FF and BT produces a properly laid out page. When I
- examined the the rf delta created with the menu, I found that the
- blank line I had asked to be between the page number and the text was
- inserted BELOW the page number anyway.
-
- There are thus two problems running footer-wise which I have
- encountered.
-
- I don't like the way in which MD IT is geared to the display of
- labels. It's a small point, but it touches on something in which my
- prejudices are confirmed. NB confronts high wysiwyg factors in other
- systems; and as someone who has no need for graphics a pure text-based
- system is jes' fine. But then I want my underlined text to look
- underlined, my bold etc etc etc; I have no problems with not seeing
- Gothic or Times Roman or whatever on the screen - those are printing
- problems. So I insist in using mono mode to get underlining, and now
- italics. I like this aspect of NB4. After all, paper is generally
- printed in black on white, so I see no point in getting the screen all
- alit like a Christmas tree. But I am disappointed that labels now
- vanish into the general text when I want them to go on standing out
- sharply. I had not realised that in NB3 they were tied immovably to
- italics.
-
- My preoccupation with italics is due to their importance in legal
- writing, and I also need superscript. I was hoping that - while not
- giving me 100% wysiwyg, which is no problem - at least the on screen
- representations of these modes would be better.
-
- I also could not find a setting for underlined bold.
-
- I also have difficulty in making changes to defaults stick. This has
- featured frequently lately - is there a definitive answer??
