- Subject: Full-text ERIC Digests - now available for IBM PCs
-
- I hesitate to send a message about a product, but this is a very, good
- low-cost ($150) way to get full-text ERIC digests for IBM PC
- users. All you need is an IBM or clone and a hard disk.
-
- Digests are full-text summaries of hot topics and research - on
- all areas of education.
-
- Although the company lists a phone number, you can contact
- NU_RUDNER@CUA.EDU for more information.

-
- Easy-to-use software brings the full text of ERIC Digests
- to the computer screen
-
- Chevy Chase, MD -- Superintendents, school board members, PTA members,
- and other educators can now use their IBM PC to search and retrieve
- the full text of essays covering the hot topics in education today.
- LMP Associate's Query the best minds in education combines award-
- winning search software and a data base of over 850 Digests produced
- by the 16 ERIC Clearinghouses. All the Digests are written by leading
- authorities and are professionally edited.
-
- "Having Query is like having a research staff at your
- fingertips," said Lawrence M. Rudner, developer of Query and the
- Director of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Tests, Measurement, and
- Evaluation. From early childhood education to adult education, from
- rural education to urban education, Query contains essays on almost
- every imaginable education topic.
-
- Query's sharp, succinct essays summarize current issues in
- education, outline differing viewpoints, answer key questions, and
- identify significant articles. "Query can be a big help in
- investigating new ideas, preparing for meetings, and reviewing
- proposals--any time informed discussion or decision making is
- warranted," Rudner added.
-
- With pull-down menus, simple instructions, and mouse support,
- Query lets users quickly and easily locate relevant essays. Users can
- search using standard ERIC descriptors; or they can search for any
- word, phrase, or name that might appear in the title, author,
- abstract, or descriptors. And Query supports full boolean logic (AND,
- OR, NOT), allowing users to further refine their search
- specifications.
-
- Users can read the essays on their computer screen, print them,
- or copy them to disk. They can also reprint the essays and make all
- the copies they want.
-
- Query the best minds in education works on all IBM PCs and
- compatibles. Its fast, efficient search program can examine 200 titles
- in under 1 second on a PC/AT.
-
- Query's search program takes less than 200 kilobytes of storage
- space. While the essay data base contains 12 megabytes of
- information, it only uses 4 megabytes of hard disk space because of
- advanced compression techniques. But if hard disk space is at a
- premium, users can store the data base on high-density diskettes.
- Query will then prompt the user to insert a new data base diskette
- whenever necessary.
-
- The list price for Query is $195. The price is discounted to
- $150 for educators. An abstracts version is available for $25 and a
- demonstration disk is available for $5+$5 postage. Contact LMP Associates, 3109
- Rolling Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815, 800-243-1515, extension L31.
