- Actually, with DOS 5.0 you can use the shell to associate file extensions
- such as .wp5 to an application such as WordPerfect. Then all you do is
- click on the filename or its icon and the application is loaded with the
- program.
- In addition, you can use the shell to set up program files that work like
- batch files. With a little work and not much required in skill, you can use
- dos shell to create an organized desktop interface. You have a choice.
- On the other hand, the mac seems to discourage the average user from organizing
- the desktop - I have seen too many mac desktops that look like my desktop at h
- ome - stacks of books, files, and papers and cluttered. The computer helps me
- organize some of this mess. The Mac seems to encourage ignorance of the user.
- I use both MACs and DOS machines and provide training/instruction on both.
- "Heap Zone Full - No launch" is about as user friendly as "Abort, retry, fail?"
- in my book. Both platforms have their pros and cons. Computers are tools.
