  12. The following announcement is directed to undergraduates
  13. in Statistics, Mathematics and Engineering but we encourage anyone
  14. with interest in applied statistics to apply. Over the past 7 years,
  15. the cooperative program has expanded to three divisions inside Ford
  16. Motor Company and with a total of a dozen cooperative students.

  19. COOPERATIVE SCHOLAR PROGRAM IN APPLIED STATISTICS
  20.     In conjunction with the Ford Motor partnership, Oakland
  21. University has developed a unique cooperative program for the master's
  22. degree in applied statistics, offered through the Department of
  23. Mathematical Sciences. This program provides graduate students an
  24. opportunity to apply modern statistical methods to real world problems.
  25.     A selected few students pursuing the Master of Science in
  26. Applied Statistics at Oakland University will be chosen as cooperative
  27. scholars. This program requires two calendar years to complete. Students
  28. can start the cooperative program anytime during the summer prior to
  29. beginning the M.S. program in September. The stipend for Graduate
  30. Cooperative Scholars will be approximately $16,800 annually. In
  31. addition, tuition is waived for 20 graduate credits per year.
  32.     The scholar is required to participate in statistical consulting
  33. and training activities at automotive manufacturing/ technical sites for
  34. 120 days per year. This internship experience is supervised jointly by
  35. Oakland University faculty and the sponsoring company. The program is
  36. designed for the scholar to apply his or her classroom experience to
  37. real problems in a modern high-tech environment.

  39. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OU COOPERATIVE SCHOLAR PROGRAM
  40. (1) Obtain an application form for admission to the graduate program by
  41. contacting our department office indicated below in item (3) or Graduate
  42. Study Office, Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan 48309-1104, Phone:

  44. (2) Send completed application, application fee, letters of reference
  45. and transcipts to the Admission Office as outlined in the instructions
  46. on the application form.
  47. (3) Send a brief resume summarizing academic accomplishments, career
  48. goals and related work experience to : Professor Kevin Andrews,
  49. Department of Mathematical Sciences, Oakland University, Rochester,

  51. (4) Write a brief essay (not more than 500 words) to include with item
  52. in (3). The essay should speak to the following:
  53.     (a) How do you expect to benefit from the Cooperative Scholar

  56.     benefit to the program both for your sponsoring company and for
  57.     Oakland University?
