- Hello everyone,
-
- I noticed that there was some confusion over the new TEI pricing
- and have not seen any solid answers. If someone has indeed replied to
- this matter, please ignore the remaining message. What follows is a series
- of quotes from a DEC contract representative:
-
- "DEC has recently started its new DEC Pricing Policy (DPP) which attempts
- to bring down "commodity priced" items to the current street level."
-
- "Although there is no discount for regular buyers, DEC will investigate
- any price quotations made in the past regarding a sertain item, and will
- chose the lowest price offered."
-
- "The 30% discount for TEI has been deleted and is now replaced by an
- educational discount of 7%, referred to as an "Item Allowance Amount.""
-
- "It turns out that the majority of the items now included under the
- DPP are in fact more expensive than they were with the previous higher
- prices minues the 30%. However, DEC will compare prices before and after,
- and will pick the best bargain. "
-
- Like I said, the above are quotes of a DEC contract representative.
- I found this out after requesting a quote for new hard drives for our VAXes.
- Here's my scenario:
-
- (For hard drive model RF72E)
-
- - 5 weeks ago, I was given a quote of $5,560.00
- After our 30% educational discount, this came down to: $3,892.00
-
- - Today, I was given a quote under the new DDP price
- of $4,169.00. After our 7% allowance amount, this came
- down to: $3,877.00
- ---------
- Regarding the above figure, this is what my rep said:
-
- "Well, it looks like in this case, unlike most others, the DPP price
- is actually less. It seems that the pricing people actually did a very
- good job with the pricing of the drives."
-
- Yep.... A very good job.... $3,892 - $3,877 = $15.00
-
- I am so glad to see my favorite company take great big strides
- towards becoming a competitor for the next decade.
-
- Anyone have the number for SUN Microsystems?
-
- Themos Pentakalos
- University of Maryland
-
-
-
- P.S. Please note that my contract rep actually did a great job of
- providing me with speedy and accurate information...
