- Hello Chris,

-
- If the patron is Faculty, Staff, Student or a Secondary Borrower such
- as "Town borrower", "Friend of the Library", "Alumni" etc then there
- is no problem. These patrons either have a library card or can
- get one and we can check out the item just like any other Reserve
- Material on the computer. We use the NOTIS Circulation and OPAC
- program. The problem, of course, arises when a member of the
- "general public" wishes to use some item that is on Reserve.
-
- > we have required a picture i.d. for check out
-
- We too require a picture ID. As long as the patron has SOME form of
- picture ID, whether it be a driver's license, passport, ID from
- another school, state ID card etc then we check out the item
- manually. We have a clip board with a chart set up so that all the
- info can be quickly jotted down. We check out the items for two
- hours, library use only. FYI: We keep the reproduciable income tax
- forms here in Reserve. And the system works fine even during peak
- periods. IF they do not have ANY ID AT ALL then they may read the
- item at the counter. So no one is denied access to Govt. Docs. on
- Reserve.

-
- Since we are a state funded university, we apply this statement not
- only to Government Docs but to ALL material placed on Reserve by the
- library for reasons of security or because the item is in high demand.
- (as opposed to the items placed on Reserve by the professor for a
- specific class) Any such item we refer to as "Permanent Reserve" and
- such items may be checked out manually for two hours library use only.
