  18.       LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY STUDY OF BIRDS IN AN AGROECOSYSTEM

  21. Project Description:  The study is funded by the Environmental 
  22.      Protection Agency to evaluate the effects of agricultural
  23.      land-use patterns and practices on the avifauna of a
  24.      midwestern agroecosystem.  The study will focus on the
  25.      importance of various aspects of landscape structure (e.g.
  26.      edge-to-area relationships, interspersion of habitat types,
  27.      and connectivity of strip cover) on species richness,
  28.      composition, abundance, and predation of artificial nests.

  31. Requirements: The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. or 
  32.      equivalent in ecology or a related field, background in
  33.      avian ecology, good quantitative skills and evidence of
  34.      research productivity.  Knowledge of GIS and supervisory
  35.      experience are desirable.

  38. Support:  Salary commensurate with experience.  Full funding for
  39.      research expenses, including field technicians.

  42. Postion Duration: To begin as soon as a suitable applicant is 
  43.      found, and perferably no later than January 1993.   Position
  44.      to continue until spring 1995.
