The perfect stimulus for typing in some of an interview with The
Shamen conducted by Stilgherrian for "The Core", Adelaide's dance
paper. [puerile cynicism in square brackets answers to "Paul"]

"This is for real", Mr C says. "Shamanism is the fastest-growing
religion in the world today -- even though it isn't a religion,
it's a set of techniques. It's the oldest-known religion [even
though it isn't a religion] to mankind, it's been around
since the very beginning of the human race. It's pretty much
the magic mushroom that helped the caveman gain enough idea to
become human, [and obviously helped Mr C with this idea]
and that was a major part of the transition with the evolution
of the human race [becoming human? never!]. And it still is today,
because phychedelics definitely throw you into the world of the idea,
and once in that world of the idea you're accessed to so much
information because you are then connected with the Gaian mind.
[err, yeah!] That's what it's all about really. People have got
to learn to swap information globally by connecting with the planet.

When The Shamen talk about psychedelics, they don't mean Ecstasy or
other pills. "I'm talking about plants", Mr C explains. "Plants are
part of the evolution of the human race, and as The Shamen we do say
"keep it natural".

But Mr C says it's more than that. "The plants are coming from the
planet. [and the E from the moon?] That's why you're being connected
to the planet, and that's the difference between plants and
amphetamine or chemical-based pills", he says. "Pills can do you
damage, plants can't at the end of the day  [news to many] -- and
that's where we've got to make this distinction. Headaches and
migraines are a direct link to altered states of consciousness, lack
of food, lack of sleep, lack of water, intense cold, intense heat,
there are many ways of going into an altered state of consciousness--
and every time you do this, you get linked to the Gaian planet.

piss out of the whole rave scene, but a lot of people have taken it
seriously. But there's even a line in there about us, where it says
'very much maligned and misunderstood', and that's The Shamen right
